Kim Skattum

kimHi, I’m Pastor Kim. I have the privilege of serving Crossroads Church as its Senior Pastor. I’ve been part of this great body of believers since 1982. I’m a Dutch/Norwegian mix with a strange last name, Skattum and an even stranger first name, Kim. Don’t ask me why, but when I was born in 1956, Kim was a semi-popular boys name and I got it.

I came to Crossroads as a twenty-five year old ready and willing to serve this church as the worship leader and youth director. When our former pastor decided to retire after twenty-nine years of leading Crossroads back in 1992, the church elected me to be its third pastor. I was humbled and delighted at the same time and gladly accepted the challenge. I love this church and I love my job.

I get to serve the Lord in partnership with a staff of paid and volunteer leaders that make ministry a joy…most of the time. We are all hard working and strive for honest interaction that never settles for mediocrity. I think God likes it that way.

I’m married and have been since 1978. I met my wife, Sheryl, at Northglenn High School back in 1972. We started dating and got married and eventually moved into the house we still call home just two blocks south of Northglenn High. I have a 3 minute drive to my office at the South Campus. I know, I know, I’m spoiled.

After five years of infertility, Sheryl and I were blessed with our first child, a two-week old son by adoption. His name is Paul and he was born in 1983. He’s married to his wife Nicole. Two years after Paul came to us we were blessed with two-week old Lyndsey, also through the gift of adoption. Eight months after Lyndsey came into our lives, Sheryl gave birth to Ashley. Two years later, in 1988, Luke was born. He was born on the very day we moved into the home we live in now. The very day! Sheryl was lying in a hospital bed holding our new born son giving verbal instructions where the furniture was supposed to go into our new home.

There is a ten-year gap between Luke and our next two children, Isaac and Destiny. They were both foster children whom we were blessed to adopt. Isaac was born in 1998 and Destiny in 2000. So, besides our three dogs, that makes up the Skattum family.

My wife is a public school teacher with a Master’s degree in Special Education. I have a Master’s of Divinity degree from Denver Seminary and am working on finishing my doctorate.

We both love Colorado and enjoy outdoor recreation. We hike, bike, swim, play tennis (sort of) and love to go camping. We eat Mexican food often and don’t agree that coffee is a delightful treat in life. Sheryl hates coffee. Her beverage of choice is unsweetened iced-tea. I hate iced-tea. Other than that, we agree on everything. That’s not true. What we don’t agree on, we arm-wrestle over. She usually wins.

Having been part of Crossroads Church for most of my adult life has been a rich and rewarding experience. The Lord has given blessing and growth in steady measure to this church and I have more blessing in my life leading it than I deserve. I thank God for it regularly. Please feel free to contact me if I can serve you. My email address is: kim.skattum@crossroadsabc.com.
